Why Businesses Need WordPress? Control, Ownership

I was reminded today by an old friend why WordPress is the obvious choice today as a website platform – It gives companies way more control and ownership of their online presence.

It seems many website developers here still hold their clients to ransom building proprietary, customised websites. Every change they make to the content or coding incurs a big cost or delay. One company that proclaims a powerful CMS platform allowing self-editing of their site, still charges clients $100 to add a new page! Upgrades or enhancements come at an enormous cost, typically 2-3x what the same thing would cost if they used the lower risk, open source WordPress platform.

Additionally, these ‘expertly developed’ custom websites appear to provide few business benefits. They’re often very ‘pretty’ but also poorly coded and hated by Google, getting little search traffic. If you spend a lot of money, getting ample organic search traffic within 6-12 months would seem a top priority, yet rarely occurs. Most companies then resort to spending thousands on AdWords each month, buying traffic

More Control, More traffic, More Credibility

And WordPress is not just a ‘website’ technology, but a true online publishing platform, in the same way newspapers publish. It can have readers, subscribers, contributors, authors, editors in control of the site content and day to day management.

For bloggers, entrepreneurs, small businesses or those with a background in education or research, there is nothing better than WordPress to get your name out there and boost your online reputation.
